Minatamis na Saging is a dessert dish using plantains (also known as “saging na saba”) they are sweetened by cooking them in a sweet mixture of water, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract.
Its a quick and easy Filipino dessert recipe that you can prepare in just 15 minutes!
Your recipe is bellow but to make it easier we have added the video that we found on YouTube (you may want to turn the sound down a little and ingredients may vary but the principle is the same, enjoy!) nb: We could only find the recipe in Tagalog so those who don't speak fluent Tagalog, we're sorry!

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 pieces plantains (saging na saba)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
How to cook:
- Boil a pot/ pan of water (large enough)
- Add brown sugar and stir until diluted.
- Add salt and vanilla extract and mix.
- Add the plantains and lower to a medium heat. Cover and simmer for 8 to 12 minutes or until thickens.
- Turn-off heat and allow the plantains to cool.
- Transfer to a plate and they are ready to serve!
Tip: Add crushed ice and evaporated milk over your serving of Saging con Hielo. A delicious Filipino Dessert thats popular during the summer.
